D&rsquo;un cot\u00e9, le nom vient du khmer, attribuable plus volontiers au Cambodge. De l&rsquo;autre on y trouve des influences colonialistes fran\u00e7aises pour les ingr\u00e9dients et de la street food chinoise de Sa\u00efgon pour le plat lui-m\u00eame , ainsi que des pistes que le Lok-Lak serait d&rsquo;abord apparu au Vietnam alors que sa d\u00e9gustation a largement plus explos\u00e9 au Cambodge. Il se peut n\u00e9anmoins que les influences au Vietnam soient ult\u00e9rieures \u00e0 la s\u00e9paration des deux versions du plat. S&rsquo;en sont donc suivies deux versions qui ont fait leur vie. Le fait que l&rsquo;anglicisation du plat (\u00ab\u00a0Shaking beef\u00a0\u00bb) se soit faite sur la version vietnamienne a fini de v\u00e9hiculer l&rsquo;id\u00e9e que celui-ci est \u00e0 la base vietnamien. Dans le doute, nous pr\u00e9f\u00e9rons l&rsquo;attribuer au Cambodge, notamment du fait de la langue, mais gustativement, nous lui avons donn\u00e9 des notes vietnamiennes. La version vietnamienne int\u00e8gre par exemple de la sauce soja et de la sauce huitre en plus de la sauce de poisson et le riz y est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement \u00e0 la tomate alors que le cambodgien est nature, avec une viande plus ferme que la version vietnamienne.
