Le mot \u00ab chori \u00bb (ou <em>chora<\/em>, <em>chavli<\/em> selon les r\u00e9gions) renvoie \u00e0 diff\u00e9rentes vari\u00e9t\u00e9s de haricots\/vigna en hindi et dans les langues r\u00e9gionales ; l\u2019ajout de \u00ab red \u00bb permet de distinguer ces haricots rouges des versions blanches ou noires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Contrairement au rajma (haricot rouge), dont l\u2019arriv\u00e9e en Inde est bien document\u00e9e via les Portugais au XVI\u1d49 si\u00e8cle, l\u2019histoire pr\u00e9cise de l\u2019introduction des azuki\/red chori dans la cuisine indienne est moins clairement trac\u00e9e dans les sources grand public. Les haricots azuki sont originaires de Chine, puis introduits au Japon vers l\u2019an 1000. Leur pr\u00e9sence en Inde est ancienne mais reste moins centrale que celle d\u2019autres l\u00e9gumineuses indig\u00e8nes (toor dal, moong, urad, chana, etc.).
